Feminine and Functional

Have you ever hit the point in your life when everything you truly believed about yourself does a 180 degree flip and all of a sudden you are not convinced that you ever had a different opinion? It's happened more that once to me and this time it hit me right where it hurts the most...in my creations. Now this isn't as bad as it sounds...what I merely mean to say is that up until now my whole life has revolved around my love of colour.

I love bold, bright colours because they make me happy. But wait....white is starting to make me happy too. That can't be right! We are talking about me who has never lived in a place with white walls...who doesn't own a single piece of white furniture...who generally avoids white at all costs. Really? How can this be? How can I suddenly adore all white rooms with small pops of colour, or just all white and neutral rooms? I blame my adoration of Marian Parsons (Miss Mustard Seed). Over the last couple of years I have spend many hours perusing her gorgeous photos of light, bright and airy rooms that scream "Look at me!" Well I did Marian, ...I looked and I fell in love...and now I have an all white studio. It is the only white room in my house and now I'm seriously thinking about changing my decor throughout my house. :)

With this 180 turn on my colour-o-meter, I had an epiphany. I think that deep down I have always admired white, but have just been afraid of it because to me it represents a blank canvas. In my twisted mind, anything that was all white simply gave me too many choices to make. What if I made the wrong one? However, my whole new train of thought towards whites and neutrals tells me that there is never a "wrong" choice with white, as it's the colour with the most possibilities. Wonderful possibilities! So now my go to neutral is Old White. It still suggests a hint of colour, but is oh, SO rich when paired with a dark wax and pretty props :)

Take a gander at this scratched up cherry wannabe console table before. It was such a sad little table then but look at how bright and cheery  light and elegant with just a dash of sass that just a little bit of Old White chalk paint can do. This table has a new personality! Now she looks like she could be hanging out in the world of Parisian Couture.  Ok, maybe not that far but at least in some little foyer of a Parisian appartment with a peek-a-boo view de la tour Eiffel ;)

So I guess the moral of this story is accept every colour for it's possibilities. Even a simple neutral like white or in this case, Old White evokes elegance and richness and can immediately change the outlook of a room with just a single coat of paint ;)
