Getting My Kicks on Route 66

Share it Please

The count down is on! Only a week an a half to go to get all of my projects finished off for the Mikone Market on June 13! I'm in a mad rush around here with currently 3 large pieces and their many parts in various stages of repair/paint/stain/waxing covering most of the surfaces in the studio, now with sadly no more room for picture taking until I can get them finished up. I haz a sad! I have oodles of projects to show you but they have to wait for now :(

Anyway, moving on. Let's take a trip down Route 66! Lord knows that this girl needs a vacation ;) I picked up this table last year with absolutely no idea of what to do with it. It's 24" square and solid word. It has a nice shape to it but I was a little lost on what direction to take with it so I painted it in Typewriter by Miss Mustard Seed and waxed it...and then shoved it aside. I hated it. It had so much potential but still there just wasn't any inspiration from it.

Fast forward to my kids scrolling through their movies and landing on Disney's Cars. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner here folks! This chunky table NEEDED a Route 66 sign on it for the sheer coolness factor and with a little thing called Father's Day right around the corner, it was perfect! Off I went to make a stencil for it and then painted it on with some Old White from the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint line and re-waxed it. Done! *Insert happy dance here*

This table is perfect for a man cave or for someone who just wants to make a statement with their decor :) I'm so in love with this table now! I adore how the sign has such lovely curves and how they play off the curvy parts on the bottom of the table legs. All and all this piece was a hit with my kiddos and husband (who rarely puts in his two bits unless forced under threat of torture). If this table doesn't find a new home before June 13th then its off to the market it goes :)
