Begone Eggplant. Hello Chateau Grey!

Share it Please

Let me start by apologizing for the indoor photo. Since we rebuilt our shed, I have lost my gorgeous chippy backdrop with the natural lighting, so I quickly took a photo of this in my studio as it was on it's way out the door to its new home.

This funky waterfall cabinet was a custom order for my client who was looking for something pretty to store her shoes in. She originally wanted a cabinet that had 2 doors but when she saw this one she decided that it would work for her needs.

When I bought this cabinet in all of its eggplant glory, I had an idea in mind to make it frilly with lace and gorgeous glass knobs, but it wasn't quite the look my client was after. She had visions of Chateau Grey and cup pulls which was a completely different direction from this eye catching eggplant California Raisin imposter.

I will admit that the cabinet doesn't look that bad in the photo but someone had freshly painted it in homemade chalk paint (drips and all) and didn't seal it for a smooth texture, behind the glass there were feathers and bird seed and it smelled like skunk cabbage. Oh and the inside was a sloppy mess. No lie.

Because this was going to be storing a variety of adult and children's shoes, I was asked to add another interior shelf and frost the glass so that the shoes would be obscured. I tried to get a close up of the glass but was having a difficult time taking a clear picture without a lot of reflection in it so below you will see the art deco design that I etched into the glass.

Tell me that this panel on the door wasn't screaming for something pretty too? I had a hard time trying to decide exactly what to put on it. I originally was going to do some vintage shoe advertising but then I considered that the cabinet may not always be used for shoes so, with Chateau Grey as the paint, it called for a little bit of French advertising :)

    1. Hi Annmarie,

You can buy Martha Stewart acid etching cream or Armour Etch at most big box craft stores. I bought mine at Michaels and you just follow the instructions on the bottle :) Thanks for the compliment!
