Mini Mason Jar Candles

Share it Please

A few months ago, I stumbled across these little mason jar candles while out shopping with a friend. They were small, adorable, heavenly scented and rather bright in colour. They came in all different scents and these ones just happened to be watermelon...and lime green. Now I love green probably more than most since it just so happens to be my favourite colour, however they were a little bit too bold for most people's decor and they were also entirely too new and shiny looking for my taste ;)

So what is a girl to do when she simply cannot get past the colour, nor can she pass by such a wondrous scented candle? Why,break out the paint of course! Basically all I did with these was to add a couple of coats of Old White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and then slightly distressed them. I then added a wash of some water based stain mixed with some Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Typewriter to create a subtle aged look. The lids were scuffed up and then dropped in some vinegar for a few days to age them a bit, and were finally dressed up with some vintage sheet music.

This turned out to be a fairly easy way to dress up the candles and they made a lovely addition to some goodies that I donated for a silent auction that benefited one of my co-workers. At the end of the day they made lovely hostess gifts that were given by the highest bidder to a dinner that she had been invited to attend :)

  1. Your make over is wonderful. Maybe if you showed the before it would make it easier for others to know what they looked like before the makeover. I just can't imagine them any other way.
